Chicago: Best spots to see the Windy City's skyline

Great food, good music, friendly people, breathtaking views and more... Chicago has it all! However, in this post I'll talk about their espectacular skyscrapers and the ones you cannot miss during your visit in the city as well as the best spots to see them from! (I lived in this city for 2 years and absolutely loved the experience, so you could consider these recommendations like they're from a local 😉).

Chicago is one of the most famous cities in the Unites States. Located by the Michigan Lake (the largest lake in the country), Chicago is known for its skyscraper being the Willis Tower the second tallest building in the country!

The skyscrapers

Here are 10 of Chicago's skyscrapers that I consider to be the best and you should go see!

☞ Willis Tower: Measuring 442 meters, it was the tallest building in the world until 1998. You can visit the tower and go to the lasts floors to stand on the Ledge, a cristal box you can stand on and see the city under your feet! (entrance needed, click here for more info).

☞ John Hancock Center: The Hancock Tower is perfectly located in the Michigan, also known as the Magnificent Mile. There is a restaurant in one of the last floors of the building where you can eat with the amazing views of the city.

LaSalle Bank Building: The Home Insurance Building was built in 1885 being the first modern skyscraper in the world! However, the original building was demolished in 1931 constructing the LaSalle Bank Building. (more about the history of the building here).

☞ Trump International Hotel and Tower: Located in the city center and by the river, this building stands out. Inside you can find a hotel, residence, restaurants, spa and event spaces. It is said that Trump bought the air around his building meaning if there are future constructions near, they can't be taller than this tower.

☞ Marina City Goldberg: Corn looking towers constructed in 1967 to bring live to the city by offering theatre, shops, marina, parking and more. It's construction changed the rules! Next to these buildings you can find the House of Blues, a restaurant and theatre space you can't miss!

☞ Tribune Tower: In 1925 as headquarters for the Chicago Tribune. Its gothic architecture makes this building stand out.

☞ Chicago Theatre: You have definitely hear about this theatre and it's history is very rich in details. This is a building that you ca not miss and if you can see a show even better!

The Wrigley Building: Built in 1920 and as a fun fact, this building was Chicago's first air-conditioned office building. It is also in the Magnificent Mile and by the river.

St. Jane Hotel: Also known as the Carbide and Carbon Building, was finished in 1929 and it's a building that dazzles thanks to the material used black granite and gold details. The details are covered in genuine 24 karat. Now this building has a side use by holding a Hard Rock Hotel (pretty cool rooms and views btw).

☞ Aqua at Lakeshore: Excellence awards have been given to this building's architecture! It was inspired in the idea of being friendly with the environment. It was completed in 2009 and it's one of the most recent buildings in the city. It is a residence but it's worth admiring.

See the skyline from

You can see the skyline from the following two places and in the mean time you can also visit their attractions:

Navy Pier: A walk around this pier will be a great scape from the city and see it from afar. Restaurants and attractions can be found here as well!

Museum Campus: You can find the best museums here. They are great for anyone!

You can also see the city from other points of views

Boat Ride: See the skyline from the water on this tour that takes you into the lake and all around the river (start in Navy Pier)

City Bus Tour: See the city from the inside on one of the popular city buses.
