Pride Month: Events and Travel

Updated: Jun 30, 2020

June is my favorite month of the year for so many reasons. Summer starts, Juneteenth, San Juan, my mom's birthday and also mine ( so much more!) AND it is Pride Month as well! I'll dedicate this post to this very sweet community and to all my friends that identify with it.

Love is Love! Be you! I love you all!

Travel organizations to follow

The UNWTO is the organization of reference in the tourism industry and it works along with the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA). They have published reports about the tourism that this community does. They are a very important market that the industry has to take care of, as the report says.

Gay consumers have been identified as a meaningful market segment and this has become especially evident in the world of travel and tourism.

Also there are many destinations and some more welcoming and accepting than others and all is mostly defined because of the laws and legislations of the countries. Spain stands out in the report as:

Europe’s leading holiday destination and this continues today, essentially thanks to its excellent climate and the quality of its tourism destinations.

If you’d like more information and read the full report click here!

Amazing travel blogs by members of this community

I like travel blogs in general, but there is something absolutely unique about blogs by LGBTQ+ travelers. I want to share some of those blogs with all of you:

1. IGLTA Travel Blog: Get the best information from the experts. There is a lot of useful information in every city's post such as: what to do, where to eat, tips and where to party (very important!). Go check it out and get reliable information.

2. Parents

  • 2 Travel Dads: This family of 2 dads and 2 kids travel around the world "giving the kids a broad world view". They are the first LGBTQ family to start a travel blog and that is sooo awesome!! They practically homeschool their kids through tourism and showing them what the world has to offer. They are a great Pride example to follow because despite all the bumps on the way and challenges they had to face (called names, received threats, etc. ) they keep inspiring others with a huge heart and smile on their faces. Check out their post 10 reasons to celebrate and be active in pride.

  • 2 Moms Travel: 2 adventurous moms and 2 kids that love to travel with them. They have a lot of experience traveling and being involved with the tourism industry. It is also very cool that they don't only share their experiences in the destinations they travel to but also they are able to plan a trip for you since 2 Moms Travel is also a travel agency now!

3. Couples

  • Nomadic Boys: Two guys sharing adventures together. They talk about the destinations they've been to and also share stories. Their blog also includes a resource page and it is very useful! They seem to be very fun guys to travel with and by the way they express themselves on the their posts it makes you want to keep traveling.

  • Dopes on the Road: I discovered this couple through Nomadic Boys and it was a pleasant. This blog mixes traveling, adventure, queer culture and so much more. It is one of the most interesting blogs I've come across. I find it different, inspiring and all the experiences told in every post are super helpful!
